Moscow, October 12, Interfax - It is important to further strengthen relations with the European Union and to expand the Orthodox mission in Europe, the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church said.
"The Moscow Patriarchate wants to maintain a dialogue and cooperate with the Council of Europe and other European international institutions," the Synod chaired by Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II said at its session in Moscow on Friday.
According to Synod members, Alexy II's visit to France in early October will help "strengthen the Orthodox mission in Western Europe, further enrich the life of Russian Orthodox Church parishes in France, improve interaction with international European Institutions, with France's government agencies, with the Roman Catholic Church and protestant communities."
The Synod also noted the need to strengthen cooperation between eparchies of local Orthodox churches represented in France, "in the spirit of togetherness so characteristic of the Orthodox religion."
