Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I
, the spiritual leader of 300 million Orthodox Christians around the world, arrived in Bulgaria on Wednesday.

The patriarch will stay in the country for two days at the invitation of the Holy Synod.

Bartholomew I will be awarded Honoris Causa Doctorate by the State University of Library Studies and Information Technologies at a ceremony, scheduled for 1 pm local time.

After that, the patriarch is to read a lecture on the topic "History and Truth" before students and guests at the university .

His Holiness is also to meet the Turkish ambassador in Sofia.
