St. Augustine, FL – The Orthodox Christian Mission Center celebrates the Feastday of Sts. Peter and Paul, patrons of the OCMC theological training program, with the following message:
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
A major tenent of the Orthodox approach to missions is the cultivation of indigenous Church leadership. In 2003, the first students graduated from the Orthodox Seminary in Kasikizi, Tanzania. The Seminary was built by an OCMC Mission Team and now operates with financial assistance from the Mission Center’s Theological Training Program. There are currently 12 men studying to become priests and leaders of the Church in Tanzania. With 41,000 practicing Orthodox Christians worshiping in over 160 communities, the Bukoba Diocese of Tanzania is experiencing profound growth. Because of the Kasikizi Seminary, The newly illumined in Christ are being served by East African clergy and catechists in ever increasing numbers.
Please prayerfully consider a donation to the Mission Center’s Theological Training Program, so that men called to Holy Orders in developing countries may receive proper seminary training. Money from the Theological Training Program cultivates clergy and lay leaders abroad primarily through the following:
Financial support of mission seminaries Sponsorship of foreign students enrolled in the St. Stephen's Course, a correspondence program of the Antiochian Archdiocese of North America.
In 2006, over $58,000 was awarded by OCMC to seminaries in Albania, Alaska, Benin, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda so that the future leaders of these mission lands could receive theological education. Well-trained indigenous clergy work toward self-sustaining, vibrant, Eucharistic communities around the world. By supporting OCMC’s Theological Training Program you will be helping students, like those attending Seminary in Tanzania, to acquire the tools that they need to minister to their flocks and evangelize new people.
The Apostles Peter and Paul served the early Church by passing on the teachings of Christ. Through the Holy Spirit, they helped cultivate a new generation of leaders laying the foundation for the Church’s growth in perpetuity. Orthodox mission seminaries continue this Apostolic legacy by preparing people around the world for their service to the Lord. Please help the future clergy and lay leaders of mission countries receive this vital seminary training with your prayers and through your generous financial contribution.
Sincerely in Christ,
Fr. Martin Ritsi
