Kosovan independence can lead to new tragedies - Patriarch Alexy
Posted on Fri Dec 28 2007

Interfax

Moscow, December 27, Interfax - Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia urged against unilateral proclamation of Kosovo independence.

"The wish to proclaim Kosovan independence will lead to new tragedies," Alexy II said in Moscow.

"The Serbian people has suffered from these tragedies because many residents of Kosovo and Metohija had to flee their homes, to relocate," he said.

"Today, the Kosovan future is resolved by people who have never been to Kosovo, who do not know how sacred this land is for the Serbian people. Think of one Kosovan field, soaked with the blood of our sisters and brethren," he said.

He said Patriarch Pavel of Serbia, who is currently very sick, is a "great zealot who from the beginning of bloodshed on the land of Yugoslavia, prayed every day seeking appeasement for the enemies."

Alexy II wished that the Serbs would have less suffering and less grief.

"May God help us so that this year may be peaceful, creative and let God's blessing accompany the Serbians," he said.

If we can correct misspelled name of our Patriarch - it is Pavle, not Pavel. Thank you.
