Sofia. Sunday the Bulgarian Orthodox Church observes the Day of St. Archangel Michael – who is viewed as the field commander of the Army of God.

St. Archangel Michael is a symbol of rejoice of goodness, brightness and justice. St Michael is also considered in many Christian circles as the patron saint of the warrior.

According to the Bulgarian folk tradition the Day of St. Archangel Michael is linked with the honor to the dead. So the day before the St. Archangel Michael’s Day is called Archangel All Souls' Day, which is one of the biggest four Feasts of All Souls observed throughout the year.
