Moscow, January 15, Interfax –
Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia is concerned with a big gap between the poor and the rich in Russia and urges to reform Russian economy.
‘Today we witness to the stagnation in social sphere that may negatively affect both social structure and political stability’, the patriarch said in his interview to the Italian magazine 30 Giorni.
Alexy II noted that ‘a big gap in income level between the poor and the rich is rooted in domination of natural resources sector in Russian economical system and inequitable distribution of profit received from export of natural resources’.
‘We should be aware that a great wall of partition has been raised between the poor and the rich in recent 15 years in Russia, while the middle class has not been formed for various reasons. Such a society can not remain stable for a long time’, the primate is convinced.
According to him, the state and the business should be responsible for those categories of citizens who are not involved in business activities due to their age or social position. However, charity is not enough to solve the problem of poverty’, the patriarch believes.
‘The economy should be urgently rebuilt on the basis of modern technologies; the country’s strategical priorities should be supported at the state level. Industrial recovery and new working places are required’, Alexy II stated.
He noted that the settlement of this problem would give people an opportunity ‘to work in the specialty and to ensure a worthy life for themselves and their relatives.’
